چکیده

This paper presents a technique for reducing additive noise from audio signals which have nonstationary properties. In the technique, we model a nonstationary signal as a set of tones having various durations. Since it is important to choose an appropriate analysis window size in Spectral Subtraction (SS) for such nonstationary signals, we propose a multi-stage SS technique, in which different window size is used in each Stage and the input signal is decomposed into stationary and nonstationary components according to their duration periods. Moreover, we also propose a technique for suppressing pre-echoes which appear in the SS with a long analysis window. To demonstrate effectiveness of the proposed approach, we implemented a 4-stage SS and evaluated its subjective performance for audio signals including speech and piano.

Improved Audio Filtering using extended High Pass Filters

Noise Filtering in audio signals has always been a challenge since the noise is spread across a large bandwidth and overlaps the spectral range of the audio signal being recovered. In audio systems all these can be kept below the audible level but ambient noise may not be avoided even if the audio system is designed according to the best practices. So, there have been several audio filtering te...

Template-based spectral estimation using microphone array for speech recognition

This paper proposes a Template-based Spectral Estimation (TSE) method for noise reduction of microphone array processing aiming at speech recognition enhancement. In the proposed method, a noise template in a complex plane is calculated for each frequency bin using non-speech audio signals observed at microphones. Then for every noise-overlapped speech signals, a speech signal can be reformed b...

Paper Enhancement of Speech Communication Technology Performance Using Adaptive-Control Factor Based Spectral Subtraction Method

This paper presents speech enhancement technique based on Spectral Subtraction (SS) method. SS is a renowned noise reduction technique that works on the principle that noise spectrum estimate over the entire speech spectrum can be subtracted from the noisy signal. On the contrary, most of the noise encountered in the real-world conditions is majorly colored. Unlike Additive White Gaussian Noise...

Low Distortion Acoustic Noise Suppression Using a Perceptual Model for Speech Signals

Algorithms for the suppression of acoustic noise in speech signals are generally Short-Time Spectral Amplitude (STSA) methods such as Spectral Subtraction. These methods have been effective at reducing or removing the background noise, but have a tendency (at low SNR) to add annoying artefacts, such as musical noise, and distortion of the speech signal. By employing an auditory model, psychoaco...
